"How do I serve God?"

BY:    Gary R. Kane

'Our true service is to 'God himself' first and foremost'

To consistently praise and worship him.  Obeying the word of God is serving God. To give him honor and glory in and for all things, and to love him with All our heart (mind will and emotions) and love our neighbor (that is every human on the planet) as ourselves..   The elementary Christianity 101.

Matthew 22:37-40.
37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

1 Samuel 12:24
Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.

Roman 12:1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

John 12:26
If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Josuha 22:5
Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."

Deuteronomy 10:12-13
"And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?
(all emphasis mine)...

Secondly,  "all service to others, is birthed out of Relationship with God."

Whether one is 10 or 110.  So, when we were born again, in this, the "first relationship," now,  the "fellowship/ relationship, must "grow/develop/mature.." Spending quality time with God, truly "knowing his heart and knowing his word".

"We can't share what we don't know. We cannot give away what we do not have..."

Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'

Psalms 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Colossians 3:16
16 Let the message of Christ (his word) dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Luke 11:28
28 He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. (Amp ver).  (all emphasis mine).

So then......

Our walk and speech, and the purity of heart seen by others in us, "that character and walk, and speech and attitude, that lines up with the word of God." The very character and nature and attributes of God, that others "see and hear in and from us," this then, is the main thing in 'daily life' that others need to hear and see...  Jesus in us.  A "living witness."

Colossians 2:6
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

John 15:18-20
"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.   (all emphasis mine).

Now, the "verbal witness of the scripture to others will carry more weight to them if they see us living it..". The "verbal witness" to the "stranger at the store, or to our own relatives,  will come through us from Gods heart for them, and our obedience to share Christ which we are commanded to do, and "compelled" to do because of the relationship and fellowship we have with him, will be seen and heard through us.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you alwayseven to the end of the age." Amen.

Mark 16: 14-20
Later He (Jesus) appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He (Jesus) said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." 19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.  (all emphasis mine).

This scripture is concerning ALL those, anyone, everyone who Believes, is born again, and follows Christ, NOT just the twelve... Look again, "He who believes and is baptized.." Anyone. Anyone one who receives Christ as Lord, has this commission, go out and do the things he has commanded us here...

There again, we must be filled with the word of God and obeying it ourselves if we are going to explain to someone "why" they need Christ. In this, there cannot be fear or approval of men, because they will have to be told and shown with scripture that they are sinners and going to hell for their "rejecting Christ. That they need to know he loves them, but will judge them, and they need to repent and call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved..."

Ephesians 2: 8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Romans 10:9-10, 13.
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

So again, we are 'always back to the beginning' here, that "our relationship and love and fellowship and obedience daily with the Holy Spirit is true service to God, but "does NOT end there, if that is genuine in us, because we then will 'serve others' in the power of God," not our own energy or power, but God's.

We always know and remember, that ALL service to God and to others, to know and love God or praying over them, and helping them in any way, is NEVER to be thought of as "gaining good standing with God," or getting our duty done, or "helping God out."

God does NOT need our money or talents or help. He's not poor or weak or weary! The creator of all things, leads us to give, 'because he first gave to us' (Christ) he leads us to die to our desires and self, and trust in him for all we do, and all giving of any kind in any way, it is all birthed first from our relationship with God.

Again, NOT, talking about just "Preachers" but simply, "Christians in love with Christ with a whole heart " A-life shown forth with a pure tongue and speech, not given to foolish talk or course jesting. A life wholly given to obedience to Gods word" and loving him above self and all other things.

Ephesians 5:4
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

This, is what people lost and saved, will see, and know there is something different about this person, something uncompromising, something 'not false or worldly' yielding.

So, while not perfect, but "perfect minded", that is, one who turns from the filth and lewdness and foolishness of men, and is filled with passion for God, loves knows and obeys the word of God, lives and walks it, without fear or approval of men, and turns a deaf ear to the sounds and sights of this world, and turns their heart to God alone.

This, is "normal biblical Christianity..101"

In this, is the person being already seen as a witness, and from there, it is a "normal God given drive within them to just naturally not be able to hold back that eternal life and goodness and passion of God within them."

They are "compelled" by such a great Love, they cannot hold it in. Again, biblical Christianity 101."

When God truly has become 'our life,' we are exploding with love for others and it is not a hard thing to do, because Gods love rules and Reigns in our hearts and lives.

2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

From the music we listen to, and the words we speak, to the jokes and loose things, "we don't listen to or participate in any longer, because we've been crucified with Christ".  New creations,  new passions new desires, and the sights sounds and things we once loved in the world, are 'now gone' and hated as darkness, and our minds hearts lives, "only want" to behold and speak and participate in that which is according to righteousness and not foolishness, or darkness in Gods eyes.

Romans 6:1-23
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrectionknowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sinNow if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Himknowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In closing

So, beginning with "Relationship" right relationship with God, and "obedience to his word" and an understanding of it,  our praise and worship and obedience to God, and our lives glorifying him alone, is always the "beginning" of being a witness and servant of Christ as "normal Christianity " just plain and simple biblical normal everyday Christianity...

God loves others through us, as we are committed and submissive to him and to his word. Again, we cannot walk in, or live or share what we do not know, or have in our hearts. So, whether it is love, or money, or prayer, or sharing the gospel, or using the "spiritual gifts" God gives us when we are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, whatever it may be, in our "service" it must be first and foremost, our love and worship and obedience to God and him alone. Surrendering all, forsaking all, and becoming a living sacrifice, voluntarily laying down our lives on the altar of God's perfect will for us and those we serve, knowing we cannot do it in our own energy, but being led by the spirit of God we come bearing good fruit to all those around us, and ALL the glory goes to God!  Amen.

The Word, must fill us and be in us, then by the Holy Spirit of God within us, we will then, "naturally" or should we say, 'supernaturally,' have rivers of living water from coming out of us and as walking epistles. Christ will be sensed by, and seen in and through us, naturally as breathing oxygen!

Normal Christianity from day one of the new birth!
